Bilateral optic neuritis due to isoniazid (INH).
Optic nerve involvement is a rare side effect of isoniazid (INH) and has not been described in children. We describe this adverse reaction in a 10-year-old boy, who was treated for tuberculous meningitis. The patient showed almost complete resolution following withdrawal of INH and administration of pyridoxine and steroids.
متن کاملIsoniazid (INH) treatment of INH-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis inhibits infected macrophage to produce TNF-alpha.
Macrophages undergo apoptosis after infected by Mycobacterium tuber- culosis (M.tb), which is regulated by tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and has a direct correlation with killing of intracellular bacilli. In order to clarify the role of isoniazid (INH) in the modulation of macrophages apoptosis and intracellular bacilli replication, we performed the following studies using an INH-resi...
متن کاملIsoniazid (INH)-induced eosinophilic exudative pleural effusion and lupus erythematosus. A clinical reminder of drug side effects.
A 75-year-female with a history of Isoniazid (INH) therapy for latent tuberculosis, was admitted with a 4-week duration of dyspnea, cough, and pleuritic chest pain. She was treated with intravenous antibiotics for a diagnosis of pneumonia. Her stay was complicated by development of recurrent, exudative eosinophilic pleural effusions (EPEs). When symptoms continued to worsen and she developed jo...
متن کاملAlternatives to INH chemoprophylaxis.
Also there is some concern about efficacy of rifampicin as single drug prophylaxis in contacts where the source is proved to be excreting INH resistant bacilli. A case of probable rifampicin failure in such situation is described(3) and hence recommendation for chemophophylaxis of confirmed INH resistance vary from rimampicin alone or rifampicin with ethambutol; both regimens for 9 months(4). I...
متن کاملINH induced lichenoid eruptions.
A 15 year old boy admitted with fever for 10 days associated with altered sensorium. Clinical findings and relevant investigations (including CSF study) were consistent with the diagnosis of tubercular meningitis (TBM). He was put on oral corticosteroid and CAT-.I antitubercular drugs (ATD) (Thrice weekly dosage of INH: 600mg; Rifampicin: 450mg, Ethambutol: 1200mg, Pyrazinamide: 1500mg) [Day 1]...
